WordPress 4.7, otherwise known as Vaughan, after Jazz legend Sarah “Sassy” Vaughan, was released on December 6, 2016 and includes a brand new theme, built from the ground up, called 2017.
WordPress 4.7 comes with some new features, such as the CSS editor in the customizer that allows the user to see their changes immediately. You can now also add new pages as you create your menu in the customizer.
The 2017 theme includes a sleek design with large images throughout, perfect for small businesses as well as large corporations. Starter content is included for anyone setting up their own WordPress site so they can see how it will look.
With the 2017 theme, you can now add a video to your header, as well as see which aspects of your website can be edited right within the live preview using the new visual editor shortcuts.
I usually wait a couple of weeks before updating mine and my clients’ websites to a new version to allow time for plugin developers to update plugins. Some are a lot slower than others to update, but the ones I use the most are usually updated within a couple of weeks. As I was in the UK helping my mum move to a new home and was without internet for over a week, I did not get to do updates until yesterday.
Conveniently, I had a small website to work on, and decided to try out the new 2017 theme. One thing to be aware of, your logo will be placed over the header image, and is thumbnail size. So be sure to use a contrasting header image or include a background colour under your logo so that it is visible.
